Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion’s record-breaking ‘WAP’ shoots to No.1 on Billboard chart

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's 'WAP' broke a streaming record

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s new single “WAP” hasn’t just sparked a heated debate about female sexuality on social media, it’s also broken a streaming record while skyrocketing straight to the #1 spot on Hot 100.

According to Billboard, Nielsen Music/MRC Data reports that the single racked up an impressive 93 million U.S. streams and 125,000 downloads sold in the week ending Aug. 13.

That incredible streaming sum for “WAP” is quite literally the greatest ever for a song in its first week of release, smashing the record of 85.3 million previously set by Ariana Grande‘s “7 Rings” in its first week of availability back in February of 2019.

“Me and cardi just got off the phone screaming,” Megan wrote on her Instagram Monday to celebrate the major milestone. “FIRST FEMALE RAP COLLABORATION IN HISTORY TO DEBUT AT NUMBER 1 God is so great THANK YALL !!!”

She then tagged Cardi and wrote, “thank you for all your words of encouragement, thank you for all the laughs, & thank you for having me on the record #WAP.”

Only minutes earlier, Cardi shared a celebratory video of her own on Instagram showing her in pajamas and declaring she just woke up to the good news.

“Number f**kin one !!!!!NUMBER 1 !!! My 4th number 1 on billboard hot 100,” she wrote in the accompanying caption.

“I’m just so thankful I want to hug the LORD !! Thank you soo much @theestallion. I don’t even know how to thank you, I wish I can give you a big ass hug !!!
