A man was stabbed to death while trying to help his 19-year-old son who was assaulted in a tavern in Mpumalanga.
Adolf Zitha, 41, was killed in Xanthia, Bushbuckridge, at about 04:00 on Sunday.
The two accused, Marvin Ndlovu, 24, and Santos Makhonza, 36, appeared in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate's Court on Monday on murder charges.
Their case was postponed on 5 December for a formal bail application. Ndlovu and Makhonza remain in custody.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said Zitha's son was allegedly involved in a conflict with two men at the tavern.

"It is alleged that the suspects assaulted him, then he notified his dad, who went to the scene to investigate, and that was, unfortunately, the time Zitha was allegedly stabbed multiple times by the two suspects who fled thereafter," Mohlala added.
He said Zitha's son managed to escape and called for help.
He was taken to hospital but was later certified dead, Mohlala added, saying the two men were later tracked down and arrested.
"The investigation will also try to find out whether the tavern complied with the stipulated trading regulations.
"We cannot turn a blind eye on the alleged assault, which reportedly occurred around 04:00."
Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela condemned the murder.
