Hey Carter! Books hosts Virtual Story-time with Cocoa Santa!

It’s that wonderful time of the year where bells are ringing, people are singing, and good ole’ Saint Nick is preparing his way to come to town… in proper COVID fashion, of course. To spread the holiday cheer in the different circumstances, we’re living in; Hey Carter Books hosts their first virtual story-time with Cocoa Santa! That’s right, children of all ages, particularly children of color, get a chance to spend quality time with the famous holiday hero whose skin is a reflection of theirs.

Hey Carter! Books is a black-owned publishing company founded in 2016. The company’s mission is to” provide a representation of black and brown boys in books for children.” Hey Carter! Books focus on building confidence and developing a sense of identity. The author of Hey Carter! Books was motivated to pen her books after her son’s birth. Carter and disappointedly discovering the lack of books with characters of color for children of color.

In a recent press release, author Thomisha Booker stated, “Christmas is a holiday where Black children and families are often missing from the narrative. Entire storylines are created around this one day, but somehow we are always left out. I see myself as a curator for magical worlds where Black children are represented. This year Hey Carter! Books is bringing the magic of Christmas to homes with our Virtual Story-time…”

Virtual story-times begin this Sunday, November 29th, at 7:30 AM (PST), 9:30 AM (CST), 10:30 AM (EST), and continue every Sunday leading up to Christmas. Cocoa Santa will read stories from the Hey Carter! Books collection while enjoying a fun-filled holiday sing-a-long. Not only this, every participant will receive a special holiday gift from Cocoa Santa that includes a Hey Carter! Books coloring book and a multicultural crayons pack.
