Megan Thee Stallion announces release of debut album ‘Good News’
Ending a year that had its share of challenges, Megan's long-anticipated studio hits streets Nov. 20.
Rap sensation Megan Thee Stallion is set to release her debut studio album, Good News, next Friday, Nov. 20.
The year 2020 has been a whirlwind one for Meg.
She joined Cardi B for the hit single, “WAP.” She also released a remix of her single, “Savage,” which featured an appearance by Beyoncé.
The year also presented its share of challenges for the rap star.
In July of this year, Tory Lanez allegedly shot her following a party at the home of Kylie Jenner. Megan was hospitalized and had bullet fragments removed from both feet.

In connection with the incident, Lanez was charged in October with assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He was also hit with gun charges and allegations of inflicting great bodily injury.
The accusations came after a summer of back and forth between the two rappers, with Lanez releasing a self-titled album on which he publicly disputes the charges. For her part, Megan released a tearful Instagram Live video on which she pointedly named Lanez as the person who shot her.

Good News is, therefore, a fitting title for what has been a turbulent year for Megan and for much of Black America. Indeed, 2020 has found Blacks disproportionately affected by coronavirus, dying at a higher rate than other populations, plus police shootings and killings of Black Americans sparked national outrage as protesters took to the streets across the nation to demand justice and reform.
During an appearance as the musical guest for the season opener of Saturday Night Live, Megan declared that “We need to protect our Black women. And love our Black women. ’Cause at the end of the day, we need our Black women.”

“We need to protect our Black men and stand up for our Black men,” she told viewers, “because at the end of the day, we’re tired of seeing hashtags of our Black men.”
She also penned a New York Times op-ed called “Why I Speak Up for Black Women” and recently announced the Don’t Stop Scholarship Fund.
The fund, created in partnership with Amazon Music’s Rap Rotation, will award two female college students of color with $10,000.
