Bidvest Wits striker Mxolisi Macuphu is a doubt for the Nedbank Cup semifinal clash against Sundowns after getting hijacked earlier in the week.

Macuphu joined the Clever Boys from Chippa United ahead of the 2018/19 season.

Bidvest Wits sweat over players

Coach Gavin Hunt revealed during a press conference on Thursday that the player had his car taken by thugs

“Machupu got hijacked this week so I don’t know. They stole his car, everything so he has got a problem,” said Hunt.

The 31-year-old is not the only player whose availability is doubtful ahead of the crunch fixture, with several crucial players likely not to feature on Saturday.

“Thabang Monare is struggling a little bit, Gift [Motupa] is struggling a little bit,” Hunt added. “So, yeah if you go through the team. Pelembe has not come back, who else? “You obviously got players who tested positive (for COVID-19) two weeks ago and they have just come back this week. It’s quite a few of them.”

‘Big three’ awaits Clever Boys

Wits are one of the sides with a few more fixtures still to play before the end of the season.

While some sides have played as many as 24 league matches, the Clever Boys have only taken to the field 21 times.

This means that they have at least ten remaining fixtures before the season closes.

Hunt’s men resume league action with a tough fixture at Orlando Stadium, where they visit log leaders Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday.

The match takes place just three days before they square off with Amakhosi’s rivals, Orlando Pirates at Ellis Park.

Wits face Chiefs once more towards the end of the season, as they host them at Ellis Park on Sunday, 30 August.
