Two policemen are now being treated after they were last night shot by gunmen on Constant Spring Road, St Andrew in the vicinity of a fuel station.

According to the police Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the incident happened about 1:30 a.m. while the cops were on patrol.

It is reported that the policemen approached a white Honda Civic motorcar parked on the roadway.

They reportedly attempted to make enquiries when the occupants immediately opened fire hitting the two policemen before attempting to flee the scene.

The CCU said the injured policemen returned the fire and the getaway car subsequently crashed a short distance away.

One of the armed men ran from the vehicle while the other, who received a gunshot wound was held.

The injured cops and the wounded gunman were taken to hospital.

The injured gunman, identified as 23-year-old Ryheem Lawrence of Halls Green in Temple Hall, was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.
