The highest unemployment rate in years has millions of Americans Looking to Government for assistance. With a stalemate on Capitol Hill, it took executive orders to get new Aid to jobless Americans. Many are still waiting on that aid and like myself backup aid since March. Essentials like food has become a commodity for some families, a terrible fact a that local group intends to address.
Throughout the summer Dream Team United MKE, which consists of community leaders Farina Brooks, Rita Lee, and State Supervisor Sequanna Taylor have been heavily involved in the cities issues. Other leaders are frequently collaborating, and helping like Senator Lena Taylor. This impressive group has put on what is now known as a “Pop Up Community Cookout” the latest taking place this past Sunday. Held at a empty lot on 15th and Center, as the name suggests it is a gathering of food, that is free along with resources. The pop up portion of the event is just that, they hold them in various places, bringing supplies and tables in uhaul trucks and other vehicles. A huge part of the events are to help out with free groceries in addition to cooked food and other resources. “I needed this we are empty,” a heart breaking statement from one of the residents who attended. It was refreshing to see how much of the help were teenagers and young adults. One group of teens have been involved in all of the events is a part of Solomon’s temple, a church located On 22nd in Center. I love attending them and watching families benefit. Thank you to all who were involved have a great week.
