A gutsy solo escape by Britton John at the KK Gas Station was enough to earn him the spoils of yesterday’s 50-mile road race.

The national rider bested 37 of the nation’s top wheelsmen, his bravery earning him the winner’s trophy in 1h:49:12s for the event which was staged from Carifesta Avenue to Mahaica and back.

John led Marcus Keiler and Christopher Griffith who had a sprint finish for second and third onto the podium while Alex Mendes, Andrew Hicks and Deoraj Garbarran filled out the top six rewarding positions.

In just the second event of the quiet 2021 season, a four-man break, led by top veteran, Junior Niles was established at Sheriff Street on the way to Mahaica.

The four riders enjoyed the lead until the peloton reconnected at the turn back point. Yesterday’s race remained compact and relatively calm until John, who seemingly had the freshest legs on the course, changed gear and attacked. The pursuiters and the sprinters left their chase too late and John soloed to victory, crossing the line way ahead of his closest rivals.
