Brazilian national killed by toppling tractor in Region One

A Brazilian national was killed by a toppling tractor on Thursday afternoon at Central Baramita Village, North West District (NWD), in Region One.

Police identified at the national as ‘Peu’ (only name given), of Barama Line, Baramita Village, NWD.

 The incident occurred at around 5.30pm.

Investigations revealed that the motor tractor was being driven up a hill by another Brazilian national also of Baramita Village, at the time of the accident. The driver told police that the tractor dropped into a pothole along the trail resulting in him losing control.

Consequently, the tractor toppled down the hill and the deceased, who was an occupant, fell onto the trail. He was crushed to death as the tractor continued toppling down the hill.

Police said the victim was taken to the Baramita Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the medic on duty. The man suffered a crushed skull.

His body is presently at the Baramita mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. The driver has been assisting police with their investigation.
