The fight for D.C. statehood is back on Capitol Hill with a House committee hearing this week. What are your thoughts about the District possibly becoming the 51st state of the union?

William Travis, Frederick, Md.
I’m against it. The whole point of creating the District of Columbia was so the location would be run solely by the federal government and that no state would be able to control the U.S. Capitol. Comprising only 60 square miles, it would be only about 1/10th the size of Guam, which is not a state. How would one separate the state and federal governments in such a tiny area? What happens when the ‘state’ of Columbia is run by a party in opposition to the party running the federal government? It’s a terrible idea.

Absolutely not. Read the Constitution.
