D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser recently shared her pick for a new fire chief following the retirement of Gregory Dean, who she said provided the city with an outstanding five-and-a-half years of service.
While Bowser praised Dean as a natural leader who helped modernize the department to meet the needs of a growing city, she spoke as highly of Assistant Fire Chief John Donnelly whom she nominated and announced Friday at a news conference as the District’s new chief.
Donnelly has been with the department for almost three decades, starting his service as a recruit. He is widely respected within the department and across the community, and according to Bowser, is ready to lead the department into the future.
His nomination will go before the D.C. Council for approval.
