Cassandra Boucher, the former policewoman who was found guilty of dousing her now ex-boyfriend with a corrosive substance, was yesterday sentenced to one year behind bars.

Boucher, 31, of 5 School Street, Albouystown, was found guilty of the crime by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, who handed down the sentence.

The charge against Boucher stated that on November 7, 2018, at Camp Street and North Road, Georgetown, she unlawfully and maliciously wounded Anthony Paul with intent to maim, disfigure or cause him grievous bodily harm.

Previously Boucher had denied the charge, while her attorney, Adrian Thompson, told the court that Boucher had an abusive relationship with Paul and had made several reports of the abuse to the police but the matters were never dealt with.

It was the prosecution’s case that on the day in question, at around 10.20 am, Boucher called Paul and requested that he take her to the hospital since she was not feeling well. As they were travelling to the hospital Boucher allegedly threw the corrosive substance at Paul from the backseat of the car.

Paul then drove himself to the Georgetown Public Hospital and the attack was later reported.
