Despite President Trump’s assertions that the novel coronavirus would quickly disappear, the pandemic has only worsened in recent months, with roughly 60% of all U.S. cases coming after Election Day.
CNN, citing a Johns Hopkins University tracker, found Monday that of the approximately 24 million cases logged nationwide from the start of the pandemic early last year, 14.4 million were reported from Nov. 4 on — the day after the presidential election.
In addition to the U.S.’s 24 million cases, the country also has 397,600 related deaths as of Monday, both tops globally, according to the Johns Hopkins tracker.
Vaccination efforts have also stumbled out of the gate, with only about 12 million doses distributed of the 31 million available in the U.S. as of Monday, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
