A 52-year-old woman has been remanded after pulling a gun on Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members engaging in a protest to shut down a Clicks store in Port Elizabeth.

In a video showing the woman engaging in a heated argument with EFF members while being escorted away from the store by security guards, the woman can be seen drawing her weapon and aiming it at one of the members.

Woman, EFF member removed from Clicks store

The woman was pictured being escorted off the premises in handcuffs, along with an EFF member, who was reported to be the Regional organizer of the EFF.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg confirmed the incident to The South African, saying that the altercation had been settled without the need for arrest.

“Walmer SAPS responded to a complaint at Clicks Walmer Park,” she said. “It appeared that a 52-year-old female was involved in an altercation with EFF supporters at the entrance to Clicks Walmer Park.”

She said that police drove the implicated individuals to the police station, where they were able to settle their differences and declined to lay charges against one another.

“The Police subsequently removed the individuals involved in the altercation and transported them to Walmer SAPS,” said van Rensburg.

“Upon their arrival at the police station the parties all declined to lay charges. No arrests were affected and no cases are currently being investigated in the absence of any complainants.”

EFF call for calm during Clicks protest

On the second day of protests by the EFF against Clicks, several altercations between irate customers and party supporters have been reported, with SAPS called in to contain an altercation between customers and protesters at a Cape Town branch earlier on Tuesday.

The EFF have called for calm as their members engage in efforts to close down any and all Clicks stores around the country, saying that they need to exercise “maximum discipline” as they engage in peaceful protest.
