St. Croix Eatery Robbed at Gunpoint by Four Men

A St. Croix restaurant was robbed at gunpoint Saturday night, with four armed men making off with about $300 from the cash register, the V.I. Police Department reported Tuesday.

The men stormed the restaurant in black ski masks shouting “Don’t move or I’ll shoot you,” the report stated.

Video from security cameras at Taste of Margaritas in Frederiksted shows three masked men in black T-shirts rushing the establishment with guns drawn, then running back out the door a short time later with one covering for the others by pointing his gun while they made their escape.

According to the police report, the men drove off in a white Ford Fiesta that was parked across the street.

A 911 call around 9:35 p.m. Saturday alerted police to the robbery. According to the VIPD report, two of the men pointed their guns at the bartender and demanded she open the cash register. She complied and told police that she then moved to the side to get a clear view of the vehicle outside, the report stated.

A witness told police he was sitting in the restaurant when a Black man about 5 feet, 4 inches tall came in and used the restroom, then briefly sat down and asked if they had Corona beer before leaving again. Immediately after, four men stormed the establishment in black ski masks, he said.

The men shouted, “Do not move or I’ll shoot you,” the witness told police. Two of them approached the cash register, with one pointing a handgun at him and another at the hostess while ordering her to open the register.

Two other men stood behind him, closer to the door and when the four fled, they drove off in the white Ford Fiesta, the witness said.

Another witness told police that two of the robbers appeared to have dreads. She said the two that approached the register were Black, about 5 feet, 11 inches tall, with one of them slim and the other a medium build. Those closest to the door were Black, about 5 feet, 4 inches tall and of slim build, she said.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with any information regarding this crime is urged to contact 911 or Crime Stoppers V.I. at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
