Coronavirus In Maryland: Hospitalizations Up, ICUs Flat As State Reports 520 New Cases
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — The state is reporting 520 new coronavirus cases since Monday as hospitalizations go up slightly with ICUs flat.
Maryland reports a total of 101,235 confirmed COVID-19 cases throughout the pandemic.
Seven more people have died, state data shows.
Hospitalizations went up by 18 cases, with 453 total hospitalized. The number of people in acute care went up to 351 while ICUs went down by four to just 102 cases.

The state has administered a total of 1,661,701 tests with 1,066,070 testing negative.
The statewide positivity rate is now 3.21 percent.
The city of Baltimore's positivity rate is the lowest it has been since the pandemic began, according to Gov. Larry Hogan- doctors hope this trend continues.
"We've seen a slight decline in the number of new cases over the past few days, but certainly we want to see a sustained decline in (the) number of new cases over a 14-day period," said Dr. Letitia Dzirasa.
The goal is zero. To get there, the City's Commissioner of Health Dr. Letitia Dzirasa said social distancing and mask-wearing remain vital. Mask distribution is still going on in Charm City- Johns Hopkins and community partners gave out 85,000 masks to people who need them.
"Washing hands, social distancing and wearing a mask are the three primary ways to stay safe so in addition to masks we have health info we are sharing in English and Spanish for our community," said Michael Preston, director of Community Affairs at Johns Hopkins University & Medicine.
The "Be Safe to Stay Safe" campaign in Baltimore County is urging people to wear masks properly to slow the spread and hopefully wipe the virus out.
As questions about "an end to the pandemic" are sent to local leaders- they said a vaccine will be the closest people can get to a cure.
"We don't typically have cures for viruses, so I don't know that we will have a cure but we are looking forward to a COVID-19 vaccine," Dr. Dzirasa said.
The University of Maryland is now in phase three of testing a vaccine developed by Moderna. They hope to focus the trial on minority groups, frontline workers and people with underlying conditions. They will be vaccinating in Baltimore and Hyattsville- partnering with CASA to help reach the Latin American community.
