Sandra Bullock Wishes She Could Protect Black Son ‘In a Bubble’

The actress expresses concern over son's safety in this "mad world."

In her cover story for Glamours November issue, Sandra Bullock admits that the birth of her son Louis, a Black five-year-old boy Bullock adopted from New Orleans, forced her to get her “s**t together.” But now, the 51-year-old actress is hoping that the rest of the country can get theirs in order out of concern for her child.

“You see how far we’ve come in civil rights — and where we’ve gotten back to now. I want my son to be safe,” she said. “I want my son to be judged for the man he is. We are at a point now where if we don’t do something, we will have destroyed what so many amazing people have done.”

Bullock, who began the adoption process with her then-husband Jesse James and then followed through on her own once their marriage fell apart, said she wishes she could protect her son from the violence that has been plaguing the country the past several years. It’s likely a fear shared by many parents when they see elementary schools attacked by a senseless shooter or when our communities are terrorized by racist authorities.

“You look at women’s rights; it’s turning into a mad, mad world out there,” she continued. “But sometimes it needs to get really loud for people to say, ‘I can’t unsee this.’ If I could ride in a bubble with him for the rest of his life, I would. But I can’t.”
