Local Atlanta Community Members Gather and Discuss Crime with City Leaders

Community leaders from several SW Atlanta neighborhoods met on Monday, March 8, 2020, at the Cascade Nature Preserve. The group met with city leaders and police personnel to discuss the seemingly out-of-control crime problems in the area.

Last week over twenty cars were burglarized in the parking area of the nature preserve while unsuspecting victims were on their regular morning walks in the park. Vandals broke windows in the parked cars in search of anything of value. Most of the damaged automobiles had very few items of value inside. Mr. David Davis of the Friends of Cascade organization addressed the crowd and fielded questions from the attendees. Ms. Eunice Glover, Chairman of NPUI brought up several important observations and concerns as well. Each person who addressed the crowd was carefully listened to, as they brought different concerns to the table.

Atlanta Police Department Major C. Tyus assured the crowd that the APD is gathering helpful information that will be useful in controlling crime. This includes information that can be used to address the safety issues in the Cascade Nature Preserve as well as other community concerns such as fast cars driving up and down Atlanta’s city streets, and APVs and dirt bikes dangerously speeding up and down the streets of the city as well.

Atlanta Council member Marci Collier Overstreet was in attendance also.

Everyone left the meeting with the assurance that the problems and concerns along with helpful suggestions will be taken into consideration.
