  • Human Settlements MEC Tertius Simmers handed over a total of 212 title deeds to beneficiaries in Villiersdorp.
  • The beneficiaries are all from the 2015 Mountain Hill development project.
  • Due to Covid-19 regulations, only 32 beneficiaries were allowed to be present at the ceremony.

Western Cape Human Settlements MEC Tertius Simmers handed over 212 title deeds to residents of Villiersdorp on Tuesday.

"Being in a position to hand over these title deeds to our residents is a truly humbling experience. There is nothing more empowering than seeing residents become fully-fledged homeowners," Simmers said.

Among the recipients were elderly beneficiaries, 77-year-old Jan Olivier and 83-year-old Nottie Charlie, who seemed chuffed when Simmers handed them their title deeds.

The handing over ceremony was held at the Villiersdorp Resource Centre, but due to Covid-19 regulations, only 32 beneficiaries were allowed to attend.

"I'm excited about this opportunity and I'm also looking forward to visiting three of the elderly beneficiaries who will be receiving these title deeds," Simmers added.

Registration

According to the MEC, the beneficiaries were all from the 2015 Mountain Hill development project and the registration of the title deeds had now been finalised.

Simmers added that municipal officials were doing door-to-door visits to hand over the remainder of the title deeds, while others who were able to, could collect theirs from the local municipal offices.

"Title deed handovers remain a priority of the Western Cape government, as it helps to restore the dignity of our people," Simmers added.
