The KwaZulu-Natal SAPS Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit swooped on two Durban properties where they seized cocaine and capsules destined to be filled with heroin on Tuesday.

SAPS regional spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala, said that the bust took place during the provincial drug and firearm unit’s ongoing operation in the province to combat the widespread use and abuse of drugs.

“An operation was carried out yesterday where the police officers from Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit proceeded to a flat situated on Acutt Street in Durban to execute a search warrant. They pounced on the unsuspecting suspects and a search was conducted in the flat,” Gwala said.

Gwala said that the police officers had recovered 140 plastic wrappings of cocaine powder and five ziplock plastic packets containing cocaine powder. The total value of the recovered drugs is R58 000.

Gwala said the SAPS arrested two suspects in the flat who are aged 22 and 31. They have been charged for possession and dealing in drugs. The pair was appearing to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court to face the charges.

Gwala said the arrests led to a further investigation in the city where police uncovered another drug operation

Gwala said the estimated street value of the recovered capsules was R8000.
