A 23-year-old Louisville woman died in police custody shortly after being transported to the hospital, according to the Indiana State Police.

Ta’neasha Chappell, originally from Kentucky, was taken by ambulance from Jackson County Jail, in Brownstone, Ind., to Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour Friday, ISP said in a press release Sunday.

She died that day.

Officials have not released a cause of death or disclosed why Chappell was initially hospitalized.

An autopsy and toxicology report is pending.

Chappell was arrested on May 26 after allegedly stealing more than $3,000 worth of merchandise from an outlet mall Ralph Lauren, then leading police on a car chase.
