THE ONE and only, Beyoncé, has graced the cover of British Vogue’s December 2020 issue.

The cover also broke records. It was shot by the publication’s youngest ever cover photographer, Kennedi Carter.

Edward Kobina Enninful OBE, editor-in-chief of British Vogue, interviewed the global icon on the topic of 2020.

Speaking to him, Beyoncé revealed that she has “absolutely changed” over the course of the year.

She said: “I have learnt that my voice is clearer when I am still. I truly cherish this time with my family, and my new goal is to slow down and shed stressful things from my life.

“[My life has] been heavy and hectic. I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on building my legacy and representing my culture the best way I know how. Now, I’ve decided to give myself permission to focus on my joy.”

Fashion

Beyoncé also discussed the role of fashion in her life during lockdown as part of the interview.

“Fashion was a place of escape for me,” she said.

“My kids and I came up with Fashion Fridays. Every Friday, we would dress up in my clothes or make clothes together and take each other’s pictures.”

She added that the latest Ivy Park collection, which is worn on one of the covers, was inspired by this tradition.

“[Bright, bold colours] brought me joy and made me smile in the midst of a tough time for all of us.”

Black is King

In discussion of her Black Is King visual album, Beyoncé said she “love[s] creating a bridge for talented artists who wouldn’t typically work together.

“It was important that we worked with African designers, and the wardrobe amplified key themes in the film, such as black opulence and excellence. The fashion displayed a range of cultures and heritages.”

Beyoncé also shared that she owns two beehives, with around 80,000 bees in them.

“We make hundreds of jars of honey a year,” she said.

“I started the beehives because my daughters, Blue and Rumi, both have terrible allergies, and honey has countless healing properties.”
