Trial looms for driver accused of causing child’s death at Agricola

The trial of Danion Welcome, the driver involved in the accident that claimed the life of seven-year-old Ciarra Benjamin on June 1st, 2019 at Agricola Public Road, is scheduled to begin this Wednesday.

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly will be conducting the trial of Welcome, 39, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Welcome is represented by attorney Dexter Todd.

Benjamin was crushed as she attempted to cross the Agricola Public Road in the company of her aunt.

Welcome, who was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, was granted bail in the sum of $500,000. He pleaded not guilty to the charge that stated on the said day he drove motor lorry GWW 962 in a manner dangerous to the public.

He was also ordered to lodge his passport with the clerk of courts at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and report every Friday at 8 am to the Ruimveldt Police Station. Welcome also had his licence suspended until the completion of the trial. He is also barred from obtaining a licence for all forms of vehicles until his matter is complete.
