Kaizer Chiefs have a chance to go second on the Group C log with a win over Petro de Luanda on Tuesday night.

Despite sitting in third place on the Group C log of the CAF Champions League, there’s still hope for Amakhosi as they are tied on points with Horoya AC.

Chiefs will certainly bank on log leaders Wydad Casablanca to beat Horoya AC in the other match so that they can enhance their chances of advancing.

A win for Chiefs will see them move to seven points and in need of at least one more win to finish second on the log after matchday six.

This is because Petro de Luanda are winless in the group and have the slimmest of chances to go through to the knockout stages.

In addition, they are bottom of the log with three games to go, and it would take a miracle for them to overtake all the other three teams in front of them.

And that’s where Chiefs should capitalize on and ensure they collect maximum points against Petro.

After all, the final two matches against Wydad Casablanca and Horoya AC will be very difficult for Chiefs, and they wouldn’t want to leave it late to see if they qualify for the knockout stages.

Gavin Hunt also understands the importance of winning this match after reportedly being given the mandate to reach the quarterfinals but it won’t be easy against Petro more so because it’s an away match but they stand a very good chance.

History is also firmly on Amakhosi’s side with Petro only winning once against South African clubs in inter-club competitions in nine previous matches.

This includes matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United – and overall, Petro have suffered five defeats, drawn four and won just once against South African clubs.

That win came against SuperSport United in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup.

The match in Luanda will kick-off at 6PM SA time.
