The 6-foot-9 second rower who ruptured his ACL last August literally minutes into his debut for Irish giants Munster, has progressed to the final stages of his rehab according to the club’s forward coach Graham Rowntree.

Speaking ahead of his side’s opening Rainbow Cup clash with rivals Leinster on Saturday, 24 April, Rowntree said he was thrilled to see the Springbok Rugby World Cup winner on the verge of a return to action.

“He’s not got any smaller, that’s for sure,” Rowntree confirmed according to the Irish Examiner website.

“He’s fitting in nicely, he has been in and out doing a few bits of scrummaging, not full eight-on-eight stuff, and contact work with us this week. We’ll progress that.

“A lot of this stuff, we have to see how he reacts to every change of level we put him through. He’s getting well managed, looks fit, looks big, looks scary. We’re delighted to have him back in next week, hopefully, for full training.”

News of RG Snyman’s impending return to fitness will come as a massive relief to Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber who has had to deal with a number of injury headaches in recent times, particularly at lock where Lood de Jager and Eben Etzebeth have also been casualties.
