Rugby gaming fans are celebrating the release of Rugby Challenge 4 and can now look forward to some much needed entertainment during lockdown.

Wicked Witch Software, the company who made the Rugby Challenge game, released the digital version of Rugby Challenge 4 for download on EA Early access for Xbox one, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on 28 July. An announcement on when the physical game will be available for purchase in-store is still to be announced.

Rugby Challenge 3 was released in April 2016 and it has been a long wait for fans of the favourite rugby game, however rugby gamers will now be able to take control of their favourite rugby teams and entertain themselves in digital rugby battle.

Compete in epic rugby battles with your favourite teams

The game features the likes of the Springboks, All Blacks and Wallabies and players will be able to compete in tournaments such as Super Rugby, the Currie Cup, men’s and women’s Sevens Rugby and Premiership Rugby.

The ultimate rugby experience

Game modes include: single match, multi-team competition, extensive multi-year career mode and be a pro-mode.

Players will get the true rugby experience with commentary from the likes of Grant Nisbett and Justin Marshall and French commentary by Eric Bayle and Thomas Lombard.

Rugby Challenge 4 includes options for set tactics and custom plays allowing experienced players to keep their opponents guessing and to change their game plan.

The digital version of the game costs R999.

The future of rugby gaming

Looking at the future of rugby gaming it would be a welcome addition if Rugby Challenge introduced an ultimate team game mode where players could build their dream team similar to FIFA Ultimate Team and compete online against competitors from around the world and rise up the rankings while leading their team to glory.

Another wish many rugby gaming fans require is World Rugby to endorse a PlayStation 5 and Xbox game just like FIFA and to organise tournaments around the world at live locations.

Rugby Challenge 4 is great fun and the next step which needs to be taken is to turn Rugby Challenge 4 and future rugby games into a competitive gaming series for rugby e-sports players.
