WATCH | Firefighters struggle to contain Bainskloof Pass blaze

Firefighters in the Cape Winelands District Municipality are still trying to extinguish a fire that broke out in Bainskloof Pass, Wellington, on Saturday.

The municipality said the fire broke out during the afternoon and was still out of control due to strong winds.

Vegetation on the left flank of the mountain was burning out of control.

Around 260 hectares of vegetation has been burnt.

"There are nine firefighting vehicles with 20 crew assisted by four contracted ground teams from the NCC, two teams from CapeNature and 16 ground crew members from the Volunteer Wildfire Services, bringing the total of personnel fighting the fire to 96," the municipality said.

Three helicopters had also been deployed.
