South Africa recorded 11 182 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 on Monday and 220 deaths, bringing the official death toll to 64 509.
According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), as of Monday, the country recorded 2 206 781 laboratory-confirmed cases.
"The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD)… reports that 11 182 new Covid-19 cases have been identified in South Africa, representing a 31.4% positivity rate," the statement read.

As of Monday, Gauteng recorded 777 814 confirmed cases, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 371 527 and the Western Cape with 349 384.
"The majority of new cases today (Monday) are from Gauteng (50%), followed by Western Cape (11%). KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo accounted for 9% each; Mpumalanga accounted for 8%; North West accounted for 5%; Eastern Cape accounted for 4%; Free State accounted for 2%, and Northern Cape accounted for 1% of today's new cases," ICD spokesperson Sinenhlanhla Jimoh said.
Gauteng recorded 5 614 new cases on Monday, the Western Cape 1 225 and Limpopo 1 054.
There was an increase of 571 hospital admissions in the last 24-hour reporting cycle. As of Monday, 16 505 people were in both public and private hospitals for Covid-19.

South Africa has conducted 13 937 470 Covid-19 tests, of which 35 623 were carried out on Monday.
The recovery rate is 88.1%, which translates to 1 943 513 recoveries.
According to the Department of Health, 4 390 891 vaccine doses have been administered. Of those, 146 577 were administered in the last 24-hour reporting cycle, and 42 367 were second doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
To date, 496 842 people have been fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine, while 909 951 have been vaccinated with the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
