Police-military operations spanning St James and Trelawny resulted in several detentions in the past 48 hours, including that of three men who were being sought for various crimes.

Law enforcers also seized three illegal firearms and several rounds of ammunition.

The identities of the men, one of whom was being hunted in connection with a spate of armed robberies in St James, have not been released.

The St James police say the accused and his crony, who is also in custody, are the main culprits behind motorcycle robberies in West Gate Hills in Montego Bay.

Investigators say the serial robber was picked up among a group of men at a section of William Street known as ‘Gully’ in the Second City .

“We have been trying to capture this criminal for some time now, but he and his crony have been managing to elude the police in most instances,” one investigator said. He requested that his name be withheld because he was not authorised to speak on investigations.

Meanwhile, the Trelawny police arrested more than a dozen men and seized a home-made shotgun, two home-made 9mm pistols, and two live rounds during an operation in the Rock Spring area of Warsop, Trelawny.

Commanding officer of the parish, Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, said that two of the detainees had been on the police radar for shootings.

“We have been rather concerned after getting numerous reports of shots being fired in the Rock Spring area during the night,” Ricketts told The Gleaner.

“... These youngsters are in the place, and they have access to weapons.”

The police said that they would continue operations over the next few days.
