As Kaizer Chiefs prepare for an overhaul to their playing personnel ahead of next season, certain high-profile players appear to be falling off their radar.

The South African has gathered that Amakhosi will NOT be making a move for former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Darren Keet at the end of the campaign.

Instead, Chiefs have their sights firmly set on another Bidvest Wits goalkeeper in Brendon Peterson.

Peterson could have possibly joined the Soweto giants in 2020 but he wasn’t able to due to the transfer ban that was imposed on Chiefs.

He is currently a free agent and confirmed to several media houses that he has fully recovered from an injury that made him miss the 2020-21 PSL season.

According to the information gathered by The South African, Amakhosi prefer someone younger and experienced at the same time to come in and increase competition in the goalkeeping department.

And for that reason, Keet, who turns 32 in August, was ‘removed’ from the list of possible targets as he’s already on the other side of 30.

Keet is currently on the books of GladAfrica Championship side Cape Umoya United but he is on a short-term deal as he continues to weigh his options.

While the Bafana Bafana shot-stopper is open to a move back to the PSL, he confirmed earlier this month that his first preference will be to return to Europe.

Keet further confirmed having regular conversations with Chiefs goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter but denied their conversations had anything to do with him possibly moving to Naturena.

As things stand, Chiefs have four goalkeepers in their current squad – Itumeleng Khune, Daniel Akpeyi, Bruce Bvuma and Brylon Petersen.

However, Petersen is likely to be released as soon as Peterson seals his move to Chiefs while there’s talk that Khune could be lost to South African football with unnamed overseas club reported to be interested in acquiring his services.
