Looking for a weekend escape from the lockdown blues?

Wild in SA, a brand-new travel and adventure show with a distinctly automotive flavour, will make its debut on DStv’s Ignition channel (189) on Saturday 15 August.

WHO SHOULD WATCH?

The new series will offer the adventurous at heart that are stuck at home some escapism, and help them plan that big adventure once the lockdown is done and dusted.

WHO YOU WILL SEE

In each episode, presenters Tumelo Maketekete and Michelle D aim for an amazing destination in South Africa – a special, out of the ordinary experience. Every week the programme also features two mountain passes: A gravel one, and a tar version.

WHAT YOU CAN LEARN

Each episode will also contain a short insert on how to survive in the wild on an adventure. Survival specialist Ian van der Vyver shares tips like how to start a fire with your vehicle’s battery, and to produce drinkable water from leaves, and more.

WHERE THEY WILL TAKE YOU?

The series was filmed during lockdown, with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the production team to often think out of the box to put this eight-part series together.

“The vast majority of venues we had on our initial wish list were still locked down when we wanted to visit,” explained Maketekete, who lives for adventure and the great outdoors.

“So we had to look at alternative venues, ones off the beaten track. In this process we discovered some true gems.”

Michelle D enjoyed exploring the deserted roads, brought about by the lockdown.

“It was great to get out of the concrete jungle, away from the news reports, and the doom and gloom. It’s really good for the soul to reset every now and again – and hopefully the viewers will get to share that with us to some degree,” said the entrepreneur and adventure junkie.

WHEN TO WATCH

Premiere episodes will be broadcast on Saturday mornings at 08:00, with repeats during the rest of the week: Sunday at 14.30; Monday at 20:00; Tuesday at 17:00; Wednesday at 14:00; Thursday at 12:00 and Friday at 04:00.
