In schools where the majority of students are African American, 36% of teachers are Black compared to 54% who are white, according to a recent report from the U.S. Department of Education.

The report, which focuses on the race and ethnicity of public school teachers in the nation’s public schools, also shows that for the 2017–18 school year, 79 percent of public school teachers were white and non-Hispanic, and that about 7 percent of public school teachers were Black and non-Hispanic, the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education reported.

In addition, in schools where the majority of students are white, more than 90 percent of teachers are white, according to the report.
