Africa: Over 289,000 Active Covid-19 Cases Across Continent After More than 9 Million Tests

As of August 11, the confirmed Covid-19 case total from 55 African countries has reached 1,057,339. This comes after 9,001,649 tests with 289,789 confirmed active.

Reported deaths in Africa have reached 23,598 and recoveries 743,950.

South Africa has the most reported cases - 563,598, with deaths numbering 10,621. The next most most-affected countries are Egypt (95,666), Nigeria (46,867), Ghana (41,212), and Algeria (35,712).

The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments.
