Mocha miner burned while tending to engine in Upper Mazaruni backdam

A 57-year-old miner is currently nursing second degree burns to more than half of his body which he reportedly during a mining accident at Partang Back-dam, Upper Mazaruni River.

The injured man has been identified as Rodwell Allen, of Lot 112 Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara.

Sunday Stabroek understands that around 3.30pm on Thursday, Allen, who is employed by a miner, was working with four others on a six-inch land dredge when he went to the river bank to disconnect the engine.

While attempting to carry out the task, the radiator hose on the engine reportedly slip out dousing Allen’s body with boiling hot coolant.

Upon being scalded, Allen subsequently jumped into a nearby river to cool his burning skin.

He was as rushed to the Imbaimadai Health Post, where he was treated and admitted. His condition is listed as stable.
