Bethel, Bloomfield Uses Caravan to Visit Deaconesses and Stewardesses

On Saturday, May 2, the Rev. Daylan K. Greer, Sr., the pastor of Bethel AME Church in Bloomfield, Connecticut, along with our first lady, Sister Jennifer Little-Greer, several stewardesses, acolytes, and members met in the parking lot of the church to go and surprise 13 senior deaconesses and stewardess. Due to social distancing and their ages, they have had to stay isolated indoors, unable in many instances to see or touch their family members and loved ones. We wanted to uplift them and let them know we are thinking about and love them tremendously!

Each stewardess on the road trip was asked to gift two of our senior deaconesses and stewardesses to ensure each of them received something from us. We also bought each of them a rose and a bottle inscribed with the words “faith of a mustard seed,” along with a single mustard seed.

While in the church parking lot, the Rev. Greer prayed over the gifts and our traveling mercies to each destination. We had a caravan of eight vehicles and 19 attendees that drove to residences across six different towns throughout Connecticut, including West Hartford, Hartford, Bloomfield, Windsor, Manchester, and Vernon. We started at approximately 1:00 p.m. and finished at about 4:30 p.m. We were very fortunate to have had an incredibly beautiful sunny day, making the commute even better.

Leading our caravan was a vehicle that had a huge smiling bear hanging out the sunroof. As we arrived at each destination, we called them on the phone and asked them to come to their door. As each of them arrived at their door, we blew our horns, waved our signs, and exclaimed as loud as we could “We love you!”

Their beaming faces were truly a sight to see. They were grateful, elated, and some were emotional. One of our senior deaconesses who, due to her health, we had not seen in a while exclaimed, “It’s Bethel!”

While social distancing himself, the Rev. Greer prayed for each of our deaconesses and stewardesses, their loved ones, and homes. I know they were incredibly happy to see the caravan. It was extra special to have Rev. Greer show up, hand them their gifts, and pray for them during these incredibly unusual times.

We had an opportunity, even if for a moment, to make their day. To understand the magnitude of that made our day! Second Corinthians 1:3-4 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God.”
