Madalitso Band heads to United States of America (USA) next week Tuesday, when they will hold close to 18 concerts.
The group’s international manager Neil Nayar said Wednesday they have had ‘great’ performances so far and that now they were holding their last gigs in the United Kingdom.
The duo of Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni, from the outskirts of Mtandire in Lilongwe, is on a world tour having left the country in June 2023.
“So far, we have held 56 shows and 24 are remaining out of the 80 gigs. We can’t wait to get to USA where the duo will be performing for the first time. We have shows in New York, Boston and Chicago, among others,” Nayar said.
He said, apart from performing at top festivals in other countries such as Portugal, France and Scotland, in United Kingdom, where they are at the moment, they have had shows that have been patronised by Malawians.
“We are on this tour to tell the Malawian story and we are happy that wherever we are going, people are interested in our music and Malawi. The duo also had an exciting time at BBC Radio 6,” Nayar, who is also a musician, said.
On their journey, the group has also managed to release a single titled ‘Gule wa Kwathu’, which is celebrating culture.
The song was produced by Johan Hugo under Bongo Joe Records based in Geneva, Switzerland.
The group, whose global feat is huge following their power packed performances in five European tours since 2017, returns home next month.
Meanwhile, Alleluya Band, which was in Italy for their annual tour having left in June 2023, returns home tomorrow.
They held 40 shows in Italy as well as two performances in Portugal.
