Ocean Point Terminals (the Company or Ocean Point) last week hosted a workshop for 27 students and their instructors from the St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC). The students, who are part of the millwright, welding and electrical classes at CTEC, were also given a site tour of the terminal operations at the facility.

“It was truly a pleasure to welcome students who are so eager to learn about what we do here at Ocean Point,” said Ocean Point Terminals Chief Operating Officer Jeff Charles. “We have a vested interest in mentoring the next generation of workers, and it was heartwarming to watch the students’ excitement as they learned about our operations, as well as different career options,” added Charles.

As part of the event, the students participated in a two-hour session on Electrical Safe Work

Practices are compliant with OSHA and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.

In addition, Ocean Point employees from the security, safety, environmental, maintenance, fire, terminal operations and human resources departments provided presentations to the students on various careers, focusing on the roles and responsibilities of individuals who work in those departments.

The day culminated with the site tour of the facility, which included visits to a powerhouse, two tank fields, two docks and the fire station.

The event was organized by Ocean Point Terminals Training Supervisor Meridith Prince, who also conducted the training session.

“We aim to give students the keys to open doors as part of our outreach, and one of those avenues is Ocean Point Terminals,” said Prince. “We also strive to develop our local workforce, and I’m always happy to provide the knowledge to both our employees and students that will better prepare them for the future,” he said.
