The Republic of China (Taiwan), though it’s ICT in education project, has handed over three more smart classrooms to secondary schools to experience teaching and learning in a new and exciting manner.

The three beneficiaries of multimedia classrooms include the Grand Riviere Secondary, the Leon Hess Comprehensive and the Babonneau Secondary schools. The smart classrooms utilize large screen monitors, conferencing technology and a host of other software advancements, aimed at enhancing instruction at the institutions.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at the Babonneau Secondary School, Ambassador of Taiwan to Saint Lucia H.E Peter Chen said this is the realization of efforts to create a truly connected education system through digital education and most importantly to build resilience within the education system, through the creation, organisation and distribution of digital content.

Public Service and Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Virginia Albert-Poyotte, who is the Constituency Representative for Babonneau, welcomed the introduction of the multimedia classroom to a school in her constituency. She underscored the importance of supporting and adopting ICT in education and its connection to national development.

At the handover of the multimedia classroom to the Grande Riviere Secondary School, the Minister for Education, Sustainable Development, Science, Technology and Vocational Training, Hon. Shawn Edward, said the overwhelming support from the Taiwanese will help launch the education sector into a new era and provide students a path to learning that they have become very used to; while the Parliamentary Secretary, Sen. Hon Pauline Antoine-Prospere, said integrating technology into teaching is a valuable asset which the Ministry of Education is committed to ensuring students benefit from.

Installation was achieved with assistance from the Information Technology Unit of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College.

The multi-media space is designed to support several areas including interactive learning and recording of music and theatrical performances. It can also be used for video conferencing, virtual tours and interactive sports theory and strategy.
