Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, stressed the importance of getting the coronavirus vaccination once available, particularly for people of color.
The African American, Latino and Native Americans communities have been more vulnerable to the coronavirus “because they have been mistreated by authority for a very long time,” Fauci said, Financial Times reported Friday.
“We’ve got to do some serious reaching out,” said Fauci, a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force. “Because the one thing you don’t want is a vaccine that protects people who are not nearly as vulnerable as the ones you want to protect.”
As of Friday, the United States has more than 3.1 million coronavirus cases, including roughly 134,000 deaths, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
