Former Harare mayor Herbert Gomba on Wednesday appeared at the Harare magistrates court facing perjury and transmitting the alleged declaration form which has false information.

Gomba who is represented by Harrison Nkomo and Garikai Mhishi appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje who remanded him in custody to Thursday for bail ruling.

The State represented by Lancelot Mutsokoti had opposed bail saying Gomba is a flight risk since he has several court cases.

The prosecutor further said that Gomba falsified his address and had his residence registered to several people.

However, Gomba’s lawyer Nkomo said his client was a suitable candidate for bail and has been on bail for two years for which he never breached.

Nkomo proposed that Gomba be allowed to deposit $10 000 and to report once at Glen Norah police station until the matter is finalized.
