In a video posted on The Black History School, we learn more about Coolidge became president after President Harding’s sudden death but earned another four years due to his appeal to the middle class. He cut taxes, reduced federal spending and tried to support farmers with laws that restricted pricing. In his State of the Union address, he said Black rights were ” just as sacred as those of any other citizen.” Despite his beliefs, most of his equal rights laws were passed. He did, however, pass the Indian Citizenship Act that gave native Indians citizenship.
