Foles leads Bears comeback to beat Falcons 30-26

The Chicago Bears would bench starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in the third quarter and replace him with Nick Foles who lead a three-touchdown rally in a come from behind win over the Falcons 30-26 Sunday in Atlanta.

That Falcons took control of the game from the beginning and maintained the lead all the way to the fourth quarter leading the Bears 26-10. On the Falcons first drive, Matt Ryan connected with Calvin Ridley for a 63-yard strike down the left side of the field to setup a touchdown two plays later with
a one yard pass from Ryan to Hayden Hurst for a 6-0 lead.

After going into halftime with a commanding 16-10 lead, the Falcons wasted no time scoring quickly early in the third quarter. Ryan lead the Falcons on a seven play, 75-yard scoring drive. Todd Gurley would rush for a 10-yard touchdown on the Falcons first possession after halftime. Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo would add a field goal to increase the Falcons lead to 26-10 going into the fourth quarter.

At this point in the game, replacing Trubisky was the change that the Bears needed. At the time of his benching, Trubisky, was 13 of 22 for 128 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

After taking command of the Bears offense, Foles took the Bears to end the drive with a 17-yard touchdown pass thrown to Anthony Miller that was reversed after it was ruled that Falcons Darqueze Dennard ended up with the ball.

With the Falcons still in the lead 26-10 with just under 11 minutes left to play, Foles took the Bears on a sixty two yard drive down the field to connect with Jimmy Graham on a short 3-yard touchdown pass to make it 26-16. A touchdown pass to Allen Robinson for 37-yards and another 28-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Miller gave the Bears a 30-26 lead with 1:53 remaining in the ball game.

The Falcons tried to make a comeback but were ineffective on offense after losing their lead after halftime. The Falcons missed a field goal on their first possession of the fourth quarter and stalled on three consecutive drives, going three-and-out without taking much time off the clock to maintain their lead.
Ryan completed 19 of his 38 pass attempts for 238 yards with one touchdown and one interception which came towards the end of regulation as the Falcons attempted to mount a drive for a comeback win. Ryan was intercepted by Tashaun Gipson to seal the game. The third loss in a row for the Falcons and a 0-3 start for the 2020 season.

The bears improved to 3-0 with Nick Foles’ three touchdown comeback performance.
