Michigan’s Juwan Howard Says He’s ‘Not Exploring, Seeking Or Listening’ Regarding NBA Jobs

On the same day that ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Michigan’s Juwan Howard was “gaining traction” as a candidate for an NBA head coaching job, the former “Fab Five” member said he wasn’t interested.

Howard, 47, Tweeted that he’s “not exploring, seeking or listening” on NBA jobs.

The Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets and New Orleans Pelicans are among the teams involved in coaching searches or expected to do so soon.

Howard signed a five-year deal with Michigan last summer worth up to $11.2 million, per the Detroit Free Press. His son, Jace, is beginning his freshman season as a member of the team.

Howard had never been a head coach before taking the job at his alma mater. He had served as an assistant coach with the Miami Heat since 2013. After playing at Michigan from 1991-94, Howard played 19 seasons in the NBA and won two championships with the Heat in 2012-13.

Howard took over for former coach John Beilein, who took the Cleveland Cavaliers job but didn’t last long. Howard remains the only African-American head coach in the 14-team Big Ten.
