On Tuesday, January 19th, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announced that adults over the age of 65 will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine beginning January 25th. Currently, frontline health care workers, residents in long-term care facilities (nursing homes and assisted living facilities), and police and fire personnel are eligible. There are approximately 700,000 Wisconsinites who are 65 and older and Wisconsin currently receives around 70,000 first-dose vaccines per week from the federal government. It will take time to vaccinate this population in Wisconsin.
For the week of January 18th, North Shore Health Department is continuing to vaccinate our 1A providers. Our COVID-19 vaccine appointments have already been filled for this week. We will continue to vaccinate our 1A providers the week of January 25th. If you are a 1A provider who still needs to be vaccinated, please send us a message at [email protected].
The details of future NSHD COVID-19 vaccine clinics will be announced on a weekly basis based on the availability of vaccine supply. Once we receive confirmation of our vaccine supply from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, we will send notification about who NSHD will be vaccinating during this week. Please do not contact our office to make an appointment or be put on a waiting list. On Friday, January 29th we will send a notice out detailing how to sign up for clinics scheduled the week of February 1st.Notice will be sent through the North Shore Vaccine Updates email list and through our website when we know what our vaccine supply for the week will be.
Other Milwaukee County organizations, including health care providers and pharmacies, are planning to vaccinate adults over 65 years of age and other eligible groups based on criteria approved by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. These organizations are preparing for their vaccine clinics, but are also awaiting information from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on vaccine supply and delivery. Information on how to sign up for a vaccination appointment at these places will be forthcoming in the coming weeks.
Vaccinations for Veterans at Milwaukee VA Medical Center
The Milwaukee VA Medical Center walk-in clinic will be offering COVID-19 vaccinations Saturday through Monday to veterans 65 and over who are enrolled with the Milwaukee VA or its community clinics in Green Bay, Appleton, Cleveland and Union Grove. Vaccinations will be available at the VA clinic, located at 5000 W. National Ave. The east entrance will open at 7:15am and will remain open until 500 vaccinations are reached each day. No appointment is necessary.
COVID-19 Vaccinations at Meijer
Milwaukee-area residents may be able to register for the COVID-19 vaccine at any of the 12 Meijer locations in Wisconsin. Meijer locations include Greenfield, Grafton, Kenosha, Oak Creek, Sussex, Waukesha, Wauwatosa and West Bend.
