D.C. Public Schools and the city’s teachers’ union have tentatively come to terms regarding a plan for when and how schools might return to full in-person learning.
While a six-page agreement lists several conditions the system would have to address before reopening schools, Washington Teachers’ Union President Elizabeth Davis said she would solicit feedback from union members to share by Tuesday with DCPS Chancellor Lewis Ferebee before formally signing an agreement, DCist reported Friday.
“We want to return to in-person as soon as possible but we cannot overlook the safety issues,” Davis told DCist. “We’ve got to ensure that these schools are safe for students and teachers. And if they’re not, we do not want them to reopen.”
