Former Bidvest Wits midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi will be hoping to sink his former side when he squares up against them in the colours of Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 30-year-old made the switch from Braamfontein to Chloorkop in 2016, and has since won four trophies with the Tshwane giants.

One piece of silverware that has been elusive since Vilakazi arrived at Sundowns is the Nedbank Cup, and the club will be looking to move a step closer to hoisting the trophy aloft when they meet Wits in the semifinal on Saturday.

The highly-anticipated clash is the first for both sides since a five-month hiatus brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vilakazi says he is relishing being back on the field.

“We are onto business things now and we are playing Wits, they are my former side,” he told the club’s official website. “They are a hurdle on our way to the final.

“They are a strong side, very aggressive and that is a test we are looking forward to. It’s going to be a challenge but we are up for it and it will feel great beating them.

“Playing a second final would be great, we take all the games we play as a cup final, as we want to be the greatest team and the only way to do that is by doing great things on the field of play.”

Sundowns have already claimed one piece of silverware this season, when they beat Maritzburg United in the Telkom Knockout final in December.

They are also in the running for a third successive league title, as they sit just four points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs with a game in hand.

The match between Sundowns and Wits kicks off at 19:00 behind closed doors at Orlando Stadium.
