Whim, Chesney, KMCC among   Grassroots tournament winners

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) rolled out a series of one-day grassroots tournaments Sunday with hosts, Chesney, Kennard Memorial CC and Whim CC reigning supreme.

At the Chesney Ground, the hosts walked away with the Narsingh Deonarine Cup following their 57-run win over Sandreef in the final.

After rain curtailed the opening round, the contest was reduced to a 12-over affair. Chesney won the toss and batted,  racing to 168 for five.

They then contained Sandreef to 111 for six.

Naresh Kissoon  scored 80 not out, with  six fours and seven sixes. Kissoon shared in a 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Narine Deonarine who clubbed two sixes in his 15-run cameo.

S. Lakharia (13), Imran Khan (12) and K. Amoi (12) also chipped in with cameos as R. Balkaran bagged 3-34.

In reply, Leon Veerasammy was the only batsman that threatened to take the game away from Chesney with a well-constructed 46, highlighted by five sixes and three fours. Deonarine returned to take 2-14.

At Whim, the hosts carted off the Nagamootoo Brothers Cup after defeating Rose Hall Tigers by 31 runs.

Whim opted to bat first in overcast conditions and posted 160 for eight in their 15-over allotment before bowling out Tigers for 129 with four balls to spare.

The hosts were led brilliantly by Vinode Samaroo who hammered eight sixes and two fours in the top score of 77. The right hander shared a 52-run second wicket partnership with Moonsammy Veerasammy who carved three fours and one six in making 30.

Support also came from Kumar Motoin who made 34, laced with three fours and one six.

Kemraj Mahadeo was the principal bowler for Tigers, taking 4-17 while Tribowan ‘Turbo’ Jagdeo picked up 2-18. Tigers were rocked early as Yogeshwar Harrinarine ripped through the top order, reducing the visitors to 3-15 by the end of the third over.

However, Tigers were back in the chase through Veerapen Permaul’s 55, laced with six fours and three sixes.

When he was bowled by Oswald Vankiniah. Randell Lewis chipped in with 27 although Harrinarine’s brother, Tameshwar made light work of the lower order. The brothers ended with three wickets each.

Over at the Kennard Memorial Ground, home team Kennard Memorial CC defeated No. 43 by 21 runs to secure the Karran and Son title.

The hosts chalked up 156 for six in their 15-over quota led by Ryan Bassoo who made 42, decorated with three fours and three sixes. He was supported by S. Seelall (38), C. Mankarran (20) and T. George (18). Legspinner, Tameshwar Ramasar was the principal bowler, taking 3-18.

In the chase, No.43 were restricted to 135 all out in 14.4 overs with B. Deen top scoring with 24 and complimented by C. David and R. Pottaya with 21 runs each. T. Ramkarran copped three wickets while M. Rabindranauth and D. Sydney bagged two wickets each.
