Allegheny County reports 87 new COVID-19 cases, 9 new hospitalizations and 1 new death

Allegheny County reported 87 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, Aug. 8, bringing the county total to 8,796 reported cases, with nine new hospitalizations and one new death reported.

To date, there have been 730 past and present hospitalizations and 258 deaths reported in Allegheny County.

The newest reported COVID-19 cases are among patients ranging in age from 6 to 96 years old with the median age being 50. Positive results are from tests from July 16 to Aug. 7.

The most recent reported fatality was an individual in their 70s who died on Aug. 7.

Pennsylvania reported 813 new cases and 16 new deaths Saturday, bringing the statewide case count to 118,092 with 7,313 deaths reported.

The Governor’s Office announced Friday the state’s percent-positivity rate decreased this week to 4.1% from 4.6%, and Allegheny County is no longer on the list of counties with concerning percent-positivity rates. State health officials added Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin to the list of states where travelers returning to Pennsylvania are recommended to undergo a 14-day quarantine. The list currently includes 22 states.

The state will provide voters with postage-prepaid mail-in and absentee ballots for the 2020 election. Residents can apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot online, through a form in the mail, or at their county election office.
