The New York Jets fell to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday for their 13th straight loss of the season, the longest streak in the team’s history.New York started the game up beat. The Jets made their way down the field on first their possession with completed passes from quarterback Sam Darnold to running back Frank Gore, tight end Chris Herndon and wide receiver Breshad Perriman. The Jets were unable to get a touchdown, but were on the scoreboard first with a 45-yard field goal by Sergio Castillo. This was the only time the Jets would score for the day. Said head coach Adam Gase of the stalled first drive, “We don’t give ourselves a chance when the opportunities we do have we don’t take advantage of.”

Seattle and quarterback Russell Wilson, coming off a disappointing loss to the New York Giants the week before, responded quickly. 6 plays and 75 yards later, Wilson finds wide receiver Freddie Swain for the 19-yard touchdown catch. Seattle would never look back. After going three and out, the Jets come up with a turnover. Safety Marcus Maye intercepted a Wilson pass as he was looking for wide receiver DK Metcalf. Yet the Jets were unable to score. Said Maye, “Russell put it up. I Made a play on it. Now just have to find a way to execute out of that.”

After the New York punt, the Hawks extended the lead to 17-3 (touchdown and field goal) while the Jets turned the ball over and missed a field. First, the normally reliable Gore fumbles and then Castillo would miss the first of his 3-field goal attempts. After missing his second field goal, Seattle goes 69 yards in 9 plays taking a 23-3 halftime lead. “It got away from us very quickly,” said Gase.  Castillo had success in earlier games when he substituted for injured kicker Sam Ficken. Castillo missed his third field goal before halftime.  Gase was uncertain about a change for next week. “That’s hard for me to answer right now,” Gase said.  “When we go through our personnel meetings, I’m sure that we’ll discuss that.” Castillo said he plans to prepare for the next game in the same ways, but believes he will be effective. “I’m going to keep writing down my goals daily to work on my mind game,” he said. “Technique, I’m going to keep doing the basics and just look at film. At the end of the day that’s how we can get better.”

The Jets had four possessions in the second half resulting in three punts. Before being replaced by ex-Jets Geno Smith, Wilson finished his day completing 21 of 27 passes, 206 yards and 4 touchdowns. Darnold was the complete opposite. By games end, he completed 14 passes on 26 attempts for only 132 yards. Said Darnold of the losing streak, “Yeah, I mean, losing’s not fun, so, we’ve just got to do better and like I said during the week, we’ve just got to find a way to improve and get better and do all the things that we need to do to try to win a game.”

The Seahawks are tied for first place in the NFC West with the Los Angeles Rams. The Jets head back to the west coast to take on the Los Angeles Rams Sunday.
