A search is underway for a group of men who held up a truck driver and robbed him near the gates of the National Police College of Jamaica in Spanish Town, St Catherine today.

The police say about 1 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, hoodlums held up the driver of a truck along the Twickenham Park Main Road near the entrance to the National Police College of Jamaica.

The hoodlums reportedly took the licensed firearm of the truck driver and then took over the truck.

Police manning the entrance to the college were alerted and attempted to intercept the truck.

The gunmen then allegedly fired at the police before abandoning the truck further down the road near the Jamaica Urban Transit Company Depot.

The police said some of the contents of the truck and the stolen firearm were found in the vehicle.

There was blood inside the truck and it is believed that at least one of the men was injured during the incident.
